Create a More Refined Nasal Profile

Primary rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to improve facial balance and harmony. It is performed on patients who have not previously undergone nasal surgery and may address concerns like a prominent hump, a wide bridge, an uneven shape, a drooping tip, or overall nasal proportions. Dr. Tran uses advanced techniques to create refined, natural-looking results that complement your features while preserving your individuality.

Primary Rhinoplasty Treats:

  • A prominent dorsal hump
  • A crooked or asymmetrical nose
  • A wide or narrow nasal bridge
  • A bulbous, drooping, or poorly defined nasal tip
  • An overly large or small nose in proportion to your face
  • Uneven nostril size or shape
  • A nose that lacks facial harmony
  • Congenital nasal shape concerns

Types of Primary Rhinoplasty Techniques

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty is performed through carefully placed incisions inside the nostrils, leaving no visible external scar. This may be appropriate for patients requiring more limited changes to the nasal bridge, tip, or overall contour. Because the incisions remain hidden, postoperative swelling may be somewhat reduced in select cases. Dr. Tran recommends this technique only when it allows him to safely achieve your desired aesthetic goals while preserving natural harmony.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty uses the same internal incisions as a closed approach, along with a small incision across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils. This technique provides greater visibility of the underlying nasal structures, allowing Dr. Tran to perform more precise reshaping and address more complex anatomical concerns. Open rhinoplasty is often recommended when extensive refinement or detailed contouring is needed.

Benefits of Primary Rhinoplasty:

  • Creates greater facial balance and harmony
  • Refines the size and shape of the nose
  • Smooths a prominent dorsal hump
  • Improves nasal tip definition and projection
  • Straightens a crooked or asymmetrical appearance
  • Enhances the proportions of the bridge and nostrils
  • Produces natural-looking, personalized results
  • Customizes treatment to your unique facial anatomy
  • Delivers long-lasting aesthetic improvements

Your Primary Rhinoplasty Surgery

Your primary rhinoplasty begins with a thorough review of your surgical plan and facial anatomy. After you arrive at our accredited surgical facility, you will receive anesthesia. Dr. Tran carefully makes the planned incisions using a closed or open approach, depending on the complexity of your procedure and the changes needed to achieve your goals.

With access to the underlying bone, cartilage, and soft tissue, Dr. Tran precisely reshapes the structural framework of your nose. This may involve refining the nasal bridge, adjusting the tip, narrowing the nostrils, improving symmetry, or repositioning cartilage to create better facial harmony. Every step is tailored to your unique anatomy rather than a standard formula.

After the desired refinements are complete, Dr. Tran carefully closes the incisions and places a protective splint over your nose to support the healing tissues. Depending on your procedure, internal splints or soft packing may also be used. Before you return home, your care team will review your recovery instructions and ensure you are comfortable.

Recovery After Primary Rhinoplasty

After primary rhinoplasty, you can expect swelling, bruising around the eyes, mild congestion, and tenderness during the first one to two weeks. Most patients return to non-strenuous work and daily activities within about 1 to 2 weeks, although strenuous exercise and activities that could impact the nose should be avoided until cleared by Dr. Tran.

Following your postoperative instructions, sleeping with your head elevated, and attending scheduled follow-ups help support a smooth recovery.

For appropriate candidates, laser scar treatments may also be recommended to help optimize the appearance of surgical scars.

As the swelling gradually subsides over the following months, your new nasal contours become refined. While you will notice improvements much sooner, the final results typically continue to develop over 12 to 18 months, particularly in the nasal tip. Because rhinoplasty permanently reshapes the underlying structures, the results are considered permanent.
